I was following along on Twitter today and noticed that JennaDesigns tweets were standing out a bit, so I did a bit of poking around.  Come to find out that she is a mother of two and loves to design, sew and photograph the world around us.

With over 780 followers it would seem that she has quite the following, if you will.  Her designs are VERY comforting and warm.  As soon as I saw the potholders I felt like I wanted a set.  With white edges and an almost mosaic design in the center, they really “pop” when you look at them.

She also has a shop at Etsy.com and you can see that here.  There you will find Fine Art Photographs, Travel Tissue Holders, Snap Wallets, Bags, Items for Baby, Iron on Patches and more!  According to her profile there, she has 76 items for sale and has 81 items sold since Aug. 2008.

So, when all is said and done, I was just cruising my Twitter account and thought I would do a little write up on someone that touched me positively today, even though it was on Twitter.  I hope you enjoyed the post and maybe even visited JennaDesigns for more information.

This week, the Sheboygan Press posted the list of over 200 registered sex offenders throughout the County.  The pictures and location are available via many sources on web, but why would the Press feel the need to print an article about it?

There are many reasons that people would think it’s sort of crappy of them to do so, but is it really ok?  There are people on the list that made a mistake years ago and they are on the same list as those who prey on children.  Do you think that is right?

What do I think?

Well, if you made a mistake, you did.  Well all do and there is already a way, or 5, for those that care, to find out your background online.  Do I think the Press needs to be posting this to the readers of the paper and website?  No, I don’t think it’s right.  Just leave it a lone.  There are websites those that are concerned can access for free to find this information out on there own.  There isn’t a single person in the city that doesn’t know there are sex offenders in the city, not one.  The Press cannot say they are doing any type of service considering, everyone knows there are criminals around.

With those 3 sites to use at our discretion, you should be able to find out anything you want to know about your neighborhood.  You shouldn’t have to read it in the Press every year.  I would have to agree with the masses that there are other things the Press could be reporting on.

Since the police have been stepping it up a notch on speeders and whatnot, have you been driving any slower?  I think that I noticed a change for the most part and I think it was a change long coming.  Now if we can just get the people that drive and text message at the same time.

There are many places in Sheboygan where people are just driving way too fast.  One of them being Washington Avenue, Calumet going north from Erie, Kohler Memorial Drive and North Avenue are just a few that I have noticed with a large amount of lead footed drivers.

Are there other problems in Sheboygan?  Yes, but that doesn’t mean the police should forget about the drivers that are all crazy and could kill someone because they are going 30-40mph in a 25mph zone, especially around schools.

Have you noticed a drop in drivers speeding or have you kept your vehicle near the speed limit as a result of the “crackdown”?

Today’s frontpage has a nice article about how Sheboygan has been dubbed SheVegas.  According to the article, the name has been around for quite some time.  Myself, being only 30 this year, I have heard it, but don’t really remember how long I have been hearing it.

It makes sense though and like the article states, the city used to be comparable to Las Vegas that we all know.  Many taverns, sailor hangouts and what have you, used to be a common image for Sheboygan.  Now we still have as many bars, but the atmosphere is less like Las Vegas, but the name still has a ring to it.

Another thing in the article is the website, www.shevegas.com, which was registered about one year ago, but has recently started to see some activity.  The owner of the site, Mike Brunette, has started blogging on the domain and with today’s exposure, I am sure the activity will pick up more and more.

After reading the story it was sort of a small surprise to me to see people “cashing in” on the name, but Kim Swisher, Sheboygan Tourism Director, says that nothing is in the works for the city to cash in on the name.  Well, don’t rule them out yet, but in my opinion, I would have been all over that. 

What takes so long for people that work for the city to realize the possibilities of capitalizing on situations like using the name SheVegas?  Get on that and use it until it feels like you are beating a dead horse, or milk it out, or whatever you want to call it.

All in all, it was a nice little story that distracted me for a couple of minutes from the normal Sheboygan County news of high speed crashed, drunks, rapists and wife beaters.  It was a nice 10 minutes
