Gas Prices Up, Gas Thefts Surprising?

Just like with anything else, when the price goes up with demand, people try to find a way to get it for free. That is why I wasn’t surprised when I read the story about 3 gas thefts in the city of Sheboygan.

Gas Prices in Sheboygan

There was reports of 3 drive-offs in one day on Wednesday. Obliviously this is quite high for one day, but apparently it is not something all that new to Sheboygan County. According to the Press article:

The sheriff’s department took reports of 21 gas drive-offs through March, compared to 17 in January to March 2007. The number fell slightly in the City of Sheboygan, from 47 in the first three months of 2007 to 45 this year.

That is rather alarming to me. I knew it happened but I wouldn’t ever think that it happens THAT much, especially in Sheboygan County. Not to say that we have the very best upstanding citizens here, but, WOW, that seems like a lot of drive-offs.

According to the Press forums, most of the readers agree that pre-pay at the pumps is the way to go. In my opinion I think that is also that way to go. It’s bad enough the gas costs this much, now we have people stealing it. I think pre-pay would be a good way to curb the people from stealing the gas. No money up front, no gas in the vehicle.

Other solutions for our dependably on gasoline would include purchasing a comfortable bicycle or even a small moped or scooter.

What are you doing to save on gas since the prices are sky high?
