It has been a while since I posted here.  At first I thought about just giving up on the blog, but then I remembered that I like to give my 2 cents on this “wonderful” city we all call home.  I like to poke fun at things and whenever the latest news is brought up in conversation, I am on it like stink on sh*t.

Crime

The crime has been off the wall lately around the city and I am even surprised at myself that I haven’t made too many comments, here or on the Press website.  Usually, by the time I get to the article on the website, there is already the spelling Nazi, Grammar Nazi and crime haters on the comments section.

Most of the crime is domestic abuse, drug dealers from another city or someone shootin’ for “Weinie of the Week” on 105.7.  The crimes against children seem to be popping up a bit more and sexual predators are being released into Sheboygan at the rate of a couple per year.  That doesn’t take away from the numerous DUI’s and the possibility that one of Sheboygan’s Most Wanted got caught in Mexico.

Drive Thrus

Driving thru at the Dairy Queen in Sheboygan Falls the other day, I noticed a sign that stated the drive thru speaker line had been damaged, so please start your order when ready.  Don’t you think that since most of your traffic comes from the drive thru, you might want to get that fixed as fast as possible?  I understand the economy is in the tank and people don’t have money, but you do need to spend money to make money, right? 

Another drive thru experience that I had a while ago was at Taco Bell.  I don’t eat there much, but the last time that I did I was greeted with “Hello, how are you today?”.  WTF is that?  Am I supposed to go into how I really am today, or is my order good enough?  When I say fine and pause to hear nothing, what the hell is the next step?  Do I give my order, wait for a reply to my reply, WTF!  That is so annoying that restaurants still haven’t standardized the greeting when you pull up to the drive thru speaker.  Well, except McDonalds of course, since they use a recording greeting for some reason and it usually confuses people either asking about a menu item from morning or the voice is different from the one actually taking the order.

Weather

This is another one that I wanted to touch base on, because I know we are all waiting for Winter to end.  When the Winter takes this long to figure out what the hell it wants to do, we all know the Summer months are too close and are going to be hotter than hell!  Hang in there, it’ll all be over soon and we can all deal with blistering temps and jerk-off drivers

I am sure we have all had a chance to read about the recent raids that happened in Sheboygan in an effort to curb the “in plain site” drug dealing that has been going on around 11th and Erie.  I would like to say “Good job” to the Sheboygan police, Neighbors Against Drugs, the U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for getting their crap together and making this happen, BUT I also want to know how long it will last?

Things like this can be extremely effective if done for a long period of time, but if these types of raids or even the increased patrols were to stop or decrease, what do you think will happen?  It might be a major cost to the city to have more patrols in one area or even a major cost to the city if cops can’t be other places, but what is the city worth to the city?

The city’s most valuable asset is the city itself.  If Sheboygan is ever going to go anywhere or provide new families, tourists, etc, with any type of value, cleaning up the streets is a must!

Let’s all do our part in the fight against crime in our city, don’t be afraid to make an annoymous call to police to report suspicious activity, you might save a life!

We all read the Sheboygan Press and listen to WHBL for our news.  Lately, to me, it seems that crime might have reached a plateau.  There are still the crazy crimes like people stealing cd’s and fishing equipment from cars, but it really doesn’t seem that it’s all that bad.

I know that crime sucks, Sheboygan has seen it’s fair share of big time crime for a city of about 50,000, but I think we are still a bit lucky that it isn’t out of control like other cities of this size across the nation.

NAD seems to really have made a difference in the city.  The homes still look like drug dealing homes, but that’s more because people are lazy and have no respect for things that they own.  I really hate to see the city going to the dumps, but it’s happened in my short life.

If a person from out of town asked you about the crime in Sheboygan, what would you tell them?

Not that Wisconsin has a drinking problem or anything, but it looks like about 5 states have adopted harder laws for 1st offense drunk driving.  The penalty you ask?  Ignition interlock for 1st offense.

With over 30% of car accident deaths a result of drunk driving, more and more states are looking to curb the problem before it gets too bad.  Not a bad idea huh?  That’s what I was thinking too!

I really hate to say it, alright I don’t hate to say it, but Sheboygan is really becoming a small Milwaukee.  The crime rate is actually quite insane for a city of this size.  According to City-Data.com, Sheboygan crime rate is climbing closer to the US average every year.

I know that Milwaukee is high in crime also, but we are talking about a city with just about 50,000 residents, not almost 600,000!  I think that is crazy and I really wonder what is to become of Sheboygan. 

Will the city ever actually grow larger or will it just maintain the 50,000 residents that is currently has?  Don’t get me wrong, we all know that there are few places in the city that are desirable to live, but with more and more people flocking to the country, the inner city is getting worse.
